Michigan Wolverines Basketball Season Preview posted on 11/07/2008
John Belien had a simple plea in year one, be patient. Some fans of Michigan basketball were, and some were not. What they all saw, however, was a young team who got better as the season wore on after some embarrassing losses early. After a year in Belien's system and a few recruits that could play key roles, this year's team may surprise some people and play some post-season basketball.
Manny Harris is proving that he is and will be the heart of this team. The Sophmore looks to continue his progress after a good Freshman season, averaging over 16 points a game. He must cut down on turnovers and make better shot selection, and concentrate on getting his teammates involved when the opposition starts keying on him. Kelvin Grady showed flashes at the Point Gaurd spot, but must be more consistent. The Wolverines welcome Arizona transfer Lavell Lucas-Perry, another point gaurd that might be a little more stable than Grady, if not be a poised backup. Freshman sharpshooter Stu Douglass will give Michigan a much needed threat from the perimeter.
